Building A Greater Los Angeles - One Home & One Family at a Time

This Saturday we will welcome home a family who truly epitomizes faith. The Gaxiola Family has been living in crowded, unsafe Compton apartment for years but this weekend we will bless their new home and hand them the keys to their future.

We could not have built this home without the generous support of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans' "Thrivent Builds" program and the hundreds of volunteers who came out since September to build this home.

If you are interested in joining this celebration and experiencing what Habitat homeownership means to the community - please contact our office at 310-323-HOME.

Here's a little bit about the Gaxiola Family:

Joe Gaxiola, who is legally blind and recovering from a kidney transplant, has long dreamed of providing a safe home for his family away from the crime and violence surrounding their previous Compton apartment. To make this dream a reality the Gaxiola family has completed at least 500 hours of “sweat equity” building their home as a down payment and will pay back a zero-interest loan. The Gaxiola home is the third and final home to be completed at the Grand Avenue and 112th Street site, all of which have been funded by Thrivent Builds. The homeowners of the other two homes were involved throughout the Gaxiola build, often times providing lunch for volunteers and contributing hours towards the Gaxiola’s “sweat equity.” Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles works in partnership with local families and volunteers to make affordable housing and homeownership possible.
