Volunteers Celebrate MLK Day Building Habitat Homes in Greater Los Angeles

We will celebrate the historic 25th Anniversary of MLK Day on Saturday, January 15, 2011, by dedicating all volunteer activity in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  We are thrilled to have over 100 volunteers working with us throughout the city, including Lynwood, Southgate, Long Beach, Garden and Norwalk.

The MLK Day of Service is the only federal holiday observed as a national day of service and is a part of United We Serve, the President's national call to service initiative. It calls for Americans from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions to our most pressing national problems. The MLK Day of Service empowers individuals, strengthens communities, bridges barriers, creates solutions to social problems, and moves us closer to Dr. King's vision of a "Beloved Community."

Though we, at Habitat for Humanity, celebrate volunteerism everyday; on Saturday we are proud to honor the legacy of Dr. King and what he envisioned for America.

“I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live the meaning of its creed: that all men are created equal.” ~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., August 28, 1963
