Location, Location, Location! Members of the LMGA Really Dug Digging Ditches!

The team from Location Managers Guild of America were back to build with us and truly did propel the work of two days within one.  They barely took any breaks, worked hard, and laughed even harder.  They had so much fun, they did mention that they wanted to come back and work for two days next year.  They are working on their fundraising already I believe.

This was all back-breaking work: digging ditches, holes for plants, etc.  It was crazy.  Crazy good.

Habitat for Heroes Program Kickoff with The Home Depot Foundation

Today was a great day as we celebrated the launch of our Habitat for Heroes: Critical Home Repair program with The Home Depot Foundation!

The official launch took place at the home of Mr. Herman Smith, an 87 year old World War II veteran and the first to receive assistance through this program. Volunteers from the U.S. Air Force and Home Depot Pro Business were hard at work making much needed repairs to Mr. Smith's roof and fence.

In addition to the volunteers, there were many other special guests that joined us including; Congresswoman Laura Richardson, Former Long Beach Vice Mayor and Councilmember Val Lerch, U.S. Army Reserves Sergeant First Class Rosado, U.S. Army Reserves Commander Porter, U.S. Army Reserves Sergeant Major Brannan, U.S. Air Force Space Program Development volunteers, as well as Bryce Yamauchi and Sherry Caraway from The Home Depot.

The guest of honor, Mr. Smith, was even surprised by students from Leapwood Avenue Elementary School. Some of the students made "Our Hero Mr.Smith" signs to place in his front lawn, while others wrote letters thanking him for his service.

Local, low-income veterans and military spouses in need of a hand-up are encouraged to apply for the Habitat for Heroes: Critical Home Repair program. The program is an important part of our overall Veteran's Initiative to engage local veterans across the board in Habitat for Humanity of Greater L.A.'s  work.

Enjoy some of our video and pictures from the day!
