Like most people, there is a good chance you will be
celebrating July 4th with parades, fireworks and cookouts. Where ever you choose to celebrate the day
please take a moment to reflect on what Independence Day really means. HFH GLA
would like to give thanks to the many that have served and are currently
serving our country to preserve our freedoms.
When the founding fathers drafted the Declaration of
Independence more than 200 years ago on July 4, 1776, they talked about life,
liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Within the pursuit of happiness is home
ownership, and we, here at HFH GLA, are involved in making that privilege—that
gift of the American experience—a reality for thousands of hardworking,
low-income families and individuals.
We will continue to strive to eliminate substandard housing throughout
Greater Los Angeles and the world. We
wish you the best this Fourth of July, and urge you to remember to thank those
in uniform who protect and defend our freedom.
July 4th
Fun Fact: In a remarkable coincidence, both John Adams
and Thomas Jefferson, the only signers of the Declaration of Independence later
to serve as Presidents of the United States, died on the same
day: July 4, 1826, which was the 50th anniversary of the Declaration. Although
not a signer of the Declaration of Independence, James
Monroe,
the Fifth President of the United States, died on July 4, 1831. Calvin
Coolidge,
the Thirtieth President, was born on July 4, 1872, and thus was the only President to be born on
Independence Day.
