HABITAT'S 21 WAYS IN 21 DAYS TIP #13: GIVE YOUR PROFESSIONAL SKILLS

There are many ways to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles and we want to provide opportunities for people to use their professional skills to further the mission of Habitat. As a non-profit, our staff assumes a variety of roles and responsibilities, so your added skills can really help us with productivity, which means more homes built for hardworking families. We have needs in almost every area – from the obvious construction skills to accounting and event planning.

See the list below for some ways to volunteer your skills and if you think there might be a way to use some skill you don’t see here let us know.

  • Accountants – assist our Accounting Department with tracking and reporting.
  • Architect – participate in Architectural Peer Review to review current and upcoming projects as well as drawings/plans that will be used again.
  • Construction Worker – work on construction sites building and installing as well as leading volunteers in construction tasks.
  • Crew Leader Trainer – train site crew leaders in how to lead volunteers on Habitat sites. Must have some background in education or training as well as some construction experience. Bilingual is a plus.
  • Event Planner – assist in events including groundbreakings and dedications as well as special events like our VIP Gala, Neighborhood Block Parties, Awards Banquets, Golf Tournaments and more.
  • Real Estate Attorney – review legal documents.
  • Researcher – research corporate, faith and individual donors online and report findings to the Development Department.
  • Warehouse Assistant – maintain inventory with the Warehouse Manager. Assist in communication between the sites and the warehouse and stages materials that will be picked up for use. Should have experience with inventory and materials management and be capable of lifting 50 pounds.
